National School Meals Week (NSMW) 2025 is just around the corner – taking place 10th14th November – and we can’t wait to celebrate the amazing impact school meals can have on pupils’ lives!

For students who regularly enjoy a hot, nutritious lunch, it’s about so much more than the food on the plate. Dedicated school caterers, supported by hundreds of suppliers, not only provide balanced meals but also teach essential life skills, helping children grow strong, healthy, and ready to thrive in the classroom.

LACA is proud to launch the School Lunch Skills for Life

This year, LACA is proud to launch the “School Lunch Skills for Life” initiative as part of NSMW 2025.

LACA will highlight a different benefit of enjoying a school lunch:

Monday – Cooking Together: Encourage pupils to get involved in cooking! Caterers can share recipes for pupils and parents to try at home and highlight LACA’s Apprenticeship opportunities for secondary students considering a career in catering.

Tuesday – Nutrition: Teach children about balanced meals and making healthy choices. We’ll provide an educational activity sheet that’s perfect for the classroom, exploring concepts like ‘5 A Day’.

Wednesday – Community: Show pupils where their food comes from. Highlighting local and seasonal produce, this day celebrates school caterers’ support of local businesses and includes a traditional Roast Lunch.

Thursday – Environmental: Inspire pupils to care of our planet! School caterers work hard to reduce food miles and waste, and this day encourages students to become eco-conscious.

Friday – Social: Emphasise the joy of eating together, learning table manners, and being sociable. A day to invite VIPs and showcase the very best of school meals.
