Market Report Pressure on pepper prices >> Rising demand and lower production is causing world pepper prices to soar. The demand from more emerging areas such as China and South East Asia, plus that of traditional purchasers such as Europe and North America, is putting a strain on prices. Prices now stand at least 40% higher than some 18 months ago. Vietnam produces and exports around 45% of all global pepper exports and some reports suggest that over half of all the black pepper produced in Vietnam may not meet the EU required levels of maximum pesticides (known as the MRL – maximum residue limit). This limits what can be exported to Europe and market traders are able to look at returns such as those being made in the last few years and enter the market to speculate and profiteer. The combination of these issues is expected to keep prices high in the short to medium term. CONSCIOUS HOSPITALITY COMES TO THE RESTAURANT SHOW 2015 >> A new corporate, social and environmental responsibility focused exhibition will run alongside this year’s Restaurant Show at Olympia to satisfy the driving demand from the foodservice sector for health and nutrition, responsible sourcing, sustainability and ethical business. A live theatre will host a stellar line-up of restaurateurs and food waste champions... Conscious Hospitality Show from October 5-7 brings together over 50 exhibitors from across the sector and showcases a range of products and services – from eco-friendly cleaning products to food waste management services and catering equipment. A live theatre will host a stellar line-up of restaurateurs and food waste champions who will inspire visitors with sustainable practice insight, hints and tips. Elizabeth Duncan, commercial director for Conscious Hospitality Show, said: “Market sentiment indicates that many diners are choosing where to eat based on menu provenance, sustainable practices and how the restaurant gives back to the community. As consumers make more considered decisions about where they spend their money, outlets are aligning their practices to ensure that their offering is in line with the wants and needs of their target market.” For further info, visit www.therestaurantshow.co.uk/conscious 13000 12500 12000 11500 11000 10500 10000 9500 9000 8500 8000 7500 7000 6500 6000 5500 USD/MT 1 IP22 Pepper blk 500g producer VN 1 IP22 Pepper blk 500g producer VN 2014 2015 CONTACT YOUR DRINKS SUPPLIER TODAY NOWNOW FOOD & INDUSTRY 1 OF YOUR 5 A DAY NO ARTIFICIAL COLOURS, FLAVOURS OR PRESERVATIVES Fruit Shoot My5 meets the standards for drinks in schools in England, Scotland and Wales as at the date of manufacture.
