Making the most of VENDING business needs is critical. Look for an operator that can offer you pre and post-sales service and advice that goes beyond simply selling you the machine. We would always recommend speaking with suppliers who are members of the AVA for advice. Our members work to a strict code of conduct and the highest quality standards, meaning they will help you to make the best purchasing decision for your company. Also, as a member of the AVA, vending operators are kept up to date on legislation and regulatory changes, ensuring they are able to efficiently respond with minimum impact on your business. For example, due to significant changes being introduced by the Royal Mint in relation to the new £1 coin, and with unprecedented advancements in mobile and cashless technology, the vending industry is currently evolving more than ever. Selecting an AVA member as your supplier will provide the strongest guarantee that your purchase is future-proof. EQUIPMENT SELECTION When thinking about the selection of your equipment, consider things such as: • The number of people using the machine and when • What products are in demand • How much people are willing to pay for products • Local competition – supermarkets, cafes, convenience stores • Machine location – will it be easily accessible for all staff? • Availability of electricity and water supplies • Your budget • Cash or card payment facilities Our advice here is to attend the vending industry’s biennial exhibition, AVEX 2015, to help answer some of these questions. There you will find machine manufacturers, operators and product suppliers all able to advise on the equipment best suited to meet your business needs. Vending machines take up very little space and can be a great business booster in a host of environments UTILISE THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY TO MAXIMISE PROFITS The new £1 coin comes into circulation in 2017, meaning all coin-operated machines will need to be updated. Alongside this, research tells us that a growing number of customers expect a cashless payment option when making small purchases, whether that’s a contactless card or Smartphone and mobile payment. In June the AVA discussed the future of cash and payment systems at its Business Day, and the debate revealed that 54% of consumers don’t carry cash. Therefore, to improve service levels and maximise profit, implementing cashless systems seems inevitable for companies looking to incorporate vending machines. Buying a vending machine which offers future-proof cash and cashless payment options concurrently may prove more costly, but in the long-term, it could help to increase your potential vend-sales by around 50%. ADVICE FROM THE EXPERTS Jonathan Hilder, CEO of the Automatic Vending Association (AVA) and organiser of the industry’s most influential event, AVEX 2015, discusses the key considerations a business needs to make when buying a vending machine. >> Vending can offer many benefits to your business by allowing you to offer a refreshment service and generate income 24 hours a day. Vending machines take up very little space and can be a great business booster in a host of environments, from hospitals and schools, to workplaces, hotels and leisure centres. A vending machine is a sizeable investment for any company, so choosing the right system for your organisation’s refreshment needs is vital. Questions such as which equipment to choose, which vending operator to use and what sort of financial package is most suited to your business, will all need consideration in order to make an informed decision. BUYING FROM A REPUTABLE SUPPLIER IS KEY With hundreds of suppliers across the country to choose from, ensuring you find the best vending operator to meet your FIT FOR ALL SNACKING Vending accounts for a substantial portion of the food sold within the retail industry, and it keeps its popularity among consumers because it is constantly evolving to adapt to consumer trends and government legislation. One such trend which AVA members are responding to is healthy vending. Increasingly, the public are seeking healthier snacking alternatives so ensure you are equipped to provide options that are lower in sugar, fat and calorie content. TALK TO THE EXPERTS Next year, the vending industry will be 200 years old, a milestone that will be celebrated at AVEX 2015, the sector’s most prolific exhibition to date. AVEX 2015 will offer visitors a chance to touch, feel, see and hear from some of the industry’s key influencers, ensuring that your vending purchase is the right one for you.
